Thought this was interesting and wonder if it is nation wide. If so those that buy high octane fuel are not getting what they paid for. You can read about it here.

It was discovered in the Houston area.

I read that yesterday.
THAT SUCKS.

From reading the article, it looks like they were doing it ON PURPOSE.
It wasn't an accident.

I've always been leery of buying high octane at the pump. As greedy as people are, I wonder how many are dispensing regular in the premium hose? In the past I've had cars that required premium (or they had ignition knock). Some pumps dispensed gas that made them silent and others seemed to give you gas that was no better than regular...

I wonder. :dunno:

That is a good question. With some of todays cars, I bet it would be a hard thing to do.

I see DOT ,weights and standards, pulling samples and running analysis pretty regularly at gas stations.

Most modern vehicles adjust their timing and spark when lower octane fuel is sensed via the knock sensor. You might not ever know you were getting screwed. Older non computer cars make the octane deficiency immediately noticeable.

It's not hard to imagine screwball gs station operators taking advantage of this... especially at the independent corner store type of stations.

True. But you can only ****** spark so far before you do harm. Plus the vehicle will run like crap. Either way you will feel it, especially if you are tuned for FI. It all depends on how much they blend the fuel. :dunno:

:wtf: Filtering out the word r3tard?

I'd bet the switch from mid grade to premium would never be noticed in most vehicles. Considering that most stations sell their premium for at least 5 cents a gallon higher, there would be some sizable money to be made in the long run. Some would consider it worth it.
