Hey guys, I just registered since my search for a definitive answer has left me still scratching my head.

I have a 2006 GMC Sierra SLE 4x4 Crew Cab with factory 20" Special Edition package.

I want to level out the truck but don't really care to raise the front end to do so. I know I have seen plenty of people on this and other forums that just remove the 1.5" block from the leaf spring and call it a day.

My question, that I've yet to find an answer for, IS IT BAD? The guy at a local shop says that it'll remove some of the dampening from the suspension and lead to other issues long-term. But, another shop guy says he's done it on all his trucks.

What's the real answer? Thanks in advance, guys!

The "guy at the shop" is an idiot. Remove em. No problem whatsoever. If that doesn't get you there, buy a set of drop shackles.

How the hell can a solid block of iron add dampening?

This and This ^^^^^

Do it and enjoy it, there are no down sides unless you plan on maxxing out the trucks load capacity. Just yank them and be done with it.

Thanks for the responses guys. That's what I thought. I've ordered the 2wd u-bolts so when those come in I'll be doing this.

Here's a good question - I was looking at my truck today to just have a visual of doing the job and noticed a possible issue: The bump-stops sit only about 2" away from the axle and, by removing the lift block, they'll damn near rest on it.

Any thoughts on this?
