I've seen several of these stretched and a bed added. They almost always have near zero use. Pretty cool.

Yep, the top speed is about 30-35. It depends on if I swap in a whole new rear end or just change the gears but they will be 3.73 or 4.10 probably. I'm not looking for a powerhouse, but I plan on turning up the pump, getting a different fuel pin, and injectors sometime down the road, and hopefully a 5 speed swap to get rid of the old 3 speed.

A guy that lives around here did the same thing but he went to the junkyard and chopped the back end (axle, springs, fuel tank, and all) off of a truck and then cut the tug and rolled up the "donor" rear end and did it that way. With the Dana axles the housing actually has to be spread to remove the diff, and I called one shop and the said about $500 if I had the gears and install kit:eek: So I'm sure I can find a rear half for that or less even.

Well guys, I have been busy with school and exams and whatnot. But the plan has changed, I am now thinking of instead of having 2 trucks and twice the insurance and whatnot, doing a motor/trans. swap into my gmc. I've did lots of research and there is quite a number of people who have done this very cleanly. The only major components I'll need is an nv4500 5-speed trans(hydraulics, clutch, etc.), driveshaft modifications?, and motor mounts. The factory gauges and cruise can all be retained fairly easily as well.

Keep your GMC the way it is, IMO, nice and reliable.
