Quick question. What year did GM start using the G80. Kinda trying to figure out what my burb has.

From the reading I've done the G80 has been around since the early to mid '80s.I'm sure you've looked for the RPO decal in the glove box...is it still there?

Your siggy pic shows your Burb partly on a hill,is that as far as it got?Was one rear tire spinning like crazy and couldn't go any further?Mine did that exact same thing, that's when I realized my G80 wasn't working and decided to replace it.

Yeah one rear tire was spinning. I will look in the glove box to see what can find. Thanks Gary.

Thanks Che

Lee,take the diff cover off and take a pic so we can see it,the 3/4t G80s look a good bit different than the 1/2t's.might be a good idea to change the gear oil anyway.BTW,I got the new/used diff at a pick-a-part for $38.00,add to that the cost of the gasket & gear oil so I did this swap for under $80.00

I didn't get time to look yet today. Might run out after the kids are in bed and see. Yeah next time I go to my buddy's shop I was going to change the front and rear fluids. If it's not a G80 I would like to put one in So I am just trying to figure out what will fit if I don't have one. And if I do have one it does not work so I will be replacing it either way I guess. Or maybe a locker of some sort.
