A little less than 2 weeks in, a few impressions.

So far, I'm happy with my choice. Do I still think the full size trucks are bigger than they "need" to be? Yeah. But, it is what it is and the Silverado offered more bang for the buck than the Colorado / Canyon. With the power seats being more adjustable than the Colorado / Canyon and this truck having the power adjustable pedals, the Silverado was great for the road trip.

MyLink could use some work, especially on the Nav. If you zoom out more than I think it's a quarter mile, the city streets disappear, more than a half mile and the county roads disappear.. So, in certain views, I felt you had to be zoomed in WAY too tight to see the road you were actually on.

On the other hand, it was nice to have the more "off road" oriented roads/trails on the nav. So, that was a plus.. I just wish the operation wasn't sluggish. Unfortunately, the more I use it, the more sluggish it seems to get. :(

MyLink also didn't like the iPod Nano I was using.. You'd hit "next" and it would take 20, 30, 40 seconds to change tracks.. Doing the same on an iPod Touch (running iOS, not whatever OS the older iPods ran) worked pretty darn well, though. BlueTooth works pretty well, too, and is quick to respond.

The 5.3 moves out decent, but it doesn't have near the "grunt" the 6.2 in my old Denali had. But, I knew that going in.. I do wish it didn't feel like it was running out of steam before it hit the governor. But, knowing that makes me less inclined to want to tune it. So.. :dunno:

I only had to use 4WD a couple of times on the trip. That was a nice-to-have. Could I have gotten by without it? Probably. But, I would've been a lot more at risk of damaging something. So, I'm glad I got a truck with 4WD. It should also come in handy for the 3 hours of snow / ice we get each winter. :D2

For the trip, I averaged 19.5 MPG, including the off-road stuff.. Two tanks averaged 21. For a big-ass pickup with a V8 and 4WD, I think that's pretty good.

Oh, yeah! I think Scott (Penguin) told me a while back that the current generation trucks ride a lot better than the GMT-900's. He is 100% correct. I think this thing rides much smoother than the Denali I had. Thanks, Scott!

Bottom line, do I miss the Accord?

Not. One. Single. fWONking. Bit! Sorry, Zem, I know you like your Hondas. But, I'm glad that thing's gone from my life!

These have been posted elsewhere. But, here are a few pics of the truck from the trip.

Those 1/2 tons are damn nice and that's better mileage then I've seen on the Fronty so far at 18.5 on the tank coming back from ABQ and 17.5 for the last week, I just knew I didn't want something that big. Though if I didn't have the Tahoe or was getting rid of it for the pickup I'd be all over a 1/2 ton.

Yeah, I really didn't want anything this big. I also really wanted to like the Colorado/Canyon. But, after all was said and done, there just wasn't enough of a price difference (about $500 after my discount and incentives) between what I was looking at in a Canyon vs. the Silverado and the Silverado was a much nicer truck.

Maybe in a year or two, the Canyon will offer more bang for the buck than it does now. But, for now, the Silverado made a heck of a lot more sense to me!

Cloth interior? How's it handle dog hair?

The 900s with cloth are a bitch.

Appreciate the mini-review.

I think my GMT900 rides pretty darn nice. Be curious to see how one of these rides :dunno:

When I first drove one of the new generation Silverados, I thought they felt a little "bouncy." But, the longer I've driven this thing, the smoother it feels. That could be me just getting used to it or it could be the shocks and suspension settling in. :dunno:

Tomorrow marks two weeks since I picked 'er up and she'll roll over 2600 miles on the morning commute.

I'm surprised...the longer I own mine the more I HATE the shocks they put on this thing. The Tenneco (Rancho) shocks can't control the wheels at all. I can't wait to get the Bilstein 5100s on it.

Only 2600 miles so far. I'm sure yours has a BIT more than that.
