I know I need a new tire. That's a given. But I was wondering if I could at least get a little more use out of this tire. I a poor sonofabitch and can't afford another tire at the moment. Just debating on whether I should even bother trying to patch this one, or just roll the spare for a few weeks until I can afford another tire. If I do patch it, I will strictly be driving around town with it. I'm not stupid enough to take it on the highway and risk having a blowout.

Scotty, around here there are a ton of used tire places. Seems like the popped up overnight, maybe you can get a good used tire for cheap that will get you by, just a thought.

I will take a pick of my plug kit.

Everybody should have one of these. I have patched so many tires and been the hero getting things back to town

I even patched a brand new rear on my CBR954rr and put some miles on it :jester:

One or two lowish speed trips to work? Yeah, maybe.. WEEKS? NO way.. Like Nick suggested, see if you can find a place that sells used tires. Save a few bucks that way and be safe. It's not worth the risk to you, your kids, etc..

If the spare is in good condition maybe put the spare on then patch this one and carry it as a spare for a few weeks. :dunno:

What brand size? If it is a popular model, I am betting you could find a used one.

I bought one set of used snow tires. 2 of them had separated cords within a month. I cringe at the thought of used tires, now. If you can look the used tire over prior to mounting, you should be okay.

I'll just roll on the spare for a few weeks until I can get a new tire. I've been through my share of used tires back in the day and had several blowouts. Fwonk used tires. I'll buy new before I buy used. Plus I want all my tires to match.
The spare has plenty of tread, but it has spider cracks due to age. Plus its a 16 and my wheels are GMT900 17 inch wheels, I need to put it on the front if I will ride it that long since its an inch shorter than the other tires. I need to get a 17" spare if I can finds deal on one.

Good plan.

These are handy as hell if you have a bunch tires in your world, and travel. You can pick up the smaller kits at the auto parts store for like 8 bucks. I keep a small pump in my truck, too. Lifesaver, I tell ya!
