CS, rereading some here, and either I am misunderstanding or both these truck neither one had the originaly trans. We know for fact whatever the THM375 came out of is not oringal, since its a passenger car trans, #1, and 76 was last year of it. Also I have never heard of an 85 3/4 ton having a 700r4 from the factory. I thought they were all Turbo 400 that year. So what are you wanting to accomplish here exactly? You are removing the probably not original 700r4 from the 85 3/4 ton that intend to make a driver out of? You may not like my suggestion but it may be the most feasible, and in my opinion the right choice, if you are willing to give up the overdrive of 700r4? I am assuming the 700r4 that is coming is in need of rebuild and you are looking for a quick fix inexpensive patch job??
The T350 is 5/8 inch longer than 700r4 IF you are using the 9in tailshaft that is common in the half ton 80's truck. This is the T350 Intermediate shaft that most refer to as the long shaft since most are not aware there is a 12 inch long tailshaft Turbo 350 cuz its uncommon and was used in Vans I believe in the early to mid 70's. T350 and 700r4 use the same ds yoke also, so with only a 5/8in differance, the T350 is likely to work with your original driveshaft wo modifications. T350 has a better first gear, is light weight, absorbs less hp, and it much more common than the T400 these days and for certain the T375. Turbo 350 does use a detent pressure cable aka kickdown cable, and set properly will much better modulate your shift points than a T400 in my opinion. You can run either the T350 or the T350C. The C designates lock up converter. Keep in mind, get the right converter for the right trans if you this go route. Its a must. Consider the idea, and check your local Cragslist for a good used T350. I am thinking $75 to $125 these days since most people are looking for 700r4's and have done the conversion and probably why they have a T350 for sale. You might even find a guy willing to trade you a running T350 for your T375, knowing he can rebuild it as a T400 by chaging the output shaft and tail housing, but some racers still like the Turbo 400, so you may find a trader. JMO, that is exactly what I'd do if the ds will fit. If you ds was real tight on the 700r4, it probably won't work, but usually there is about 2-4inches of play there on the yoke, so giving up 5/8in, you are still OK for some movement too. Even if you have to buy a T350, its likely to be cheaper than the ds work.
