Took another 700 mile trip in the car last weekend. It has just over 4,300 on it now. On the way to our daughter's we drove 75/70 for a gas mileage test. I was pretty disappointed when it only got 27.3 mpg. I blamed it on low mileage and the motor still breaking in.
I took a brother for a ride with a couple wot runs. The first one was a little sluggish, but the next were what I expected.
On the way home we drove 80/85, gas mileage be damned. We got just shy of 27 at 26.85. I'm thinking maybe the engine was a bit loaded up and had something to do with the less than expected mileage on the way to the daughter's. It cleared up after the wot runs and could be why we got better than expected mileage on the way home.
Moral of the story. More wot runs so it will get better mileage.
Back when we had a 70 Roadrunner I had a mechanic explain the benefits of blowing out the carbon to the wife.
Ever since then I've told her it's preventive maintenance.
