Woah woah woah. The nearest VW dealer is 35 miles away and that's sparse and too far of a drive? I've driven farther than that for lunch. :jester:

That's too far for me considering there's a Nissan, Honda, Chevrolet, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, Dodge all within 15 miles of one another. Not to mention, VW's tend to have their little issues, and I don't feel like traveling almost 100 miles to get a car serviced. I say the NEAREST VW dealer is 35 miles away, that dealer is also in an area I'm not real comfortable with hanging out in while they repair our car if you catch my drift.

My wife drives 52 miles one way to get to work, so distance isn't always an issue, but in the case of buying a Volkswagen it was. I feel like of Volkswagen were to open some more dealerships, they'd sell way more cars then they already do. Now with that said, I'm not head over heels about the new VW designs. The new Jetta looks like everything else in it's class, and the new Passat is just meh compared to the last one. I do really like the CC, but I'm not looking to spend that much on a car. If I'm spending that much I'll buy an Infiniti or an Acura. :dunno:

Oh, and the one car I failed to mention that would be on my radar right now, would have to be the Hyundai Sonata SE. Great looking car, and hard to beat price and warranty.

A few things...

1. What are the little issues of which you speak? I'm not doubting you, just curious what to look out for because we haven't had any real issues with ours.

2. 35x2=70 :jester:

3. I've never been fearful for my life at a car lot, that must be the most hood V-dub dealer ever.

1. The most reliable VW we had still had a few small issues. One of them being the ignition. They had to replace the ignition 3 different times. The first 1 cost me out of pocket until it was discovered that their was a major issue on those particular cars. The second was the transmission case. It became porous after the first 6 months. Luckily I happened to look under the car and see the transmission case covered in oil. After rinsing it off and driving it for another couple of days I found it was covered again. Took the car in for it's scheduled service and they informed that there was a problem with the cases that were used during the time our VW was built. They repaired it, replaced some sleeves and bushings that had already worn. We also had a couple of issues with he O2 sensors, all covered under warranty, but still. The sunroof was the next ongoing issue. They adjusted it and never could get it right, and I'd end up with a ton of wind noise. After about a couple of trips to the service dept. they finally got it right. While the majority of it was all under warranty, it was still a pain in the ass to travel 35 miles one way to get this repairs. The Cabrio my wife and I bought brand new in 99 was JUNK, plain and simple. That poor car was riddled with electrical issues and brake problems. We ended up trading it for a 2000 Beetle GLS. For the record, once all the issues were dealt with, that Beetle gave us almost 175K miles of trouble free driving.

As far as I can tell VW finally got the Jetta right with the A5's. I have a couple of friends that have A4 Jettas and they were getting right then. As far as those old first and second gen Jettas were always breaking down. I also think the A5's are the best looking Jettas built. I'm not feeling the new ones too much to be honest.

2. I was rounding up to 100

3. You've never been to a VW dealership in South Fulton County, Georgia. Let's put it this way, I looked like a speck of salt in a sea of pepper. It wasn't the fact that I was the minority there, it's the area itself. It's in a high crime area. There just happens to be some car dealerships in the area. Why VW decided to place the only dealership on the south side of metro Atlanta, I'll never know. The next closest dealer which is Atlanta's biggest VW dealer is like 60 miles away, and sadly we use to go there most of the time. I have heard there's actually a dealer in Macon, Ga. now, which is 45 miles south of me, but the area is safer then the one 30 miles from me.

Thanks for the info! I do think you have your brands mixed up though. You are thinking of Audi with your A4, A5 talk. The VW's use the Mk or Mark designatoin followed by the number or Roman numeral. In my case, it's be the MkV, the Mark 5 or the Mk5.

I was using the platform name of the car.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_A_platform

Honestly though, I didn't know Jetta guys were using the MK for the generations. I've always used it with the Rabbit/Golf, but that was it. With the Scirocco it's always been Scirocco I, Scirocco II and so on. Makes sense though, I'll start using it with the Jetta too. I want to say the Audi A4 is a VW B series platform, either way VW/Audi only difference is a several thousands of dollars some times.
