Long Arm Upgrade?

so someone told me i can upgrade my 4.5in short arm kit to a long arm just by just replacing the arms instead of the whole kit....has anyone heard of something like that or have any knowledge about that kind of things? i asked on cherokeetalk but everyone responds late not like

You can blame the jeep weenies with to much money for that. that does seem like a lot since you can get a full lift kit for the same price.
