You'd have to have a decent amount of work done to have the factory kit installed. It's more than just the remotes. Your best bet is to go aftermarket and get a kit that includes remote start. I am having a Viper 5301 (one-way) kit installed on the 13th. All total it's running me about $330.

There are cheaper kits though, such as the Viper 5101 (one-way but still effective) that only run about $210, installed + the bypass module which you can pick up for $39 online and have installed for another $30 or so.

$280 will have you setup nicely.

Where did you get yours from?

Best Buy and Amazon.com. The links in the post are the same links I used or would have used. Best Buy is handling the install as it's included in the price.

We have a shop around here that is pretty reputable in the audio/car alarm biz. I may check with them.

If you just want Keyless entry and no alarm, a local shop can do it for about 100 bucks. No and need for any bypass module. If you get into remote start, and complex alarms, the extras come into play.

Actually, most places will charge you for a doorlock interface module as well. All 03 and newer GMT800's have the doorlocks controlled by the databus. So you can't simply wire up a keyless entry to the power lock buttons and get it to work. You need the module to interface with the computer, which controls the locks. The module basically tells the computer to lock and unlock the doors. Most of the bypass modules these days bypass the anti theft system, and interfaces with the doorlocks. So basically, one module does both the remote start AND the locks. So if you do end up getting a remote start, you should be able to get only one bypass module. Now if you have a 99-02 GMT800, you only need the bypass for the remote start. The locks are still wired with switches and relays on 99-02 trucks, so you can easily tie in to them with an aftermarket alarm or keyless entry.

Maybe the bypass is built into my Viper setup? I didn't buy a module. Danny at Star dove under the dash and had me out the door in about 15 minutes. :dunno:
