I've had this tire for quite some time. It is from Texas Motor Speedway. It came off Kevin Harvick's Nascar truck in 2003.

You can see track debris melted in to it, which location it came from, AND it is autographed by Kevin Harvick himself.

I have been thinking of building a sealed plexiglass case for it (with some sort of feet) that can be used as an end table. The reason it needs to be sealed is we had it in our living room until we couldn't stand the 'rubber' smell anymore. For now, it is hanging out in my garage, but I really want to try to figure out some sort of see-through case.

TX Jim had mentioned possibly designing a plexiglass case with L brackets or something, then seal it with clear silicone?

What do you guys think?

Given the size of that thing, I think I'd fabricate a nice wood-framed glass box and fill the channels in the wood with silicone to keep the smell contained.

If you really want to go completely clear, there are plenty of custom acrylic and lexan display makers out there that will deliver you a museum quality case.

I would do the same thing. If you already have some end tables that are a certain type of wood or style you can used the same wood and have the stain matched and then just get some tempered glass for the openings.

Thanks guys!

The wood framed sounds like something I would be more comfortable with.

I have quite a bit of South American Blood Wood that I can use, after running it through the planer. It came from pallets that were shipped here from there. (Very well constructed pallets!)

Would you use thick glass or plexiglass?

I'd use glass, hands down. It won't scratch, it'll be perfectly clear and if you really wanted to spruce the display up, you could have Harvick's sig or number etched into the glass as well.

1/4 tempered glass would be good for the top. I made a display coffee table and it holds up great.
