Sounds familiar......happened to my daughter's Expi.I found an entire used axle at a nearby wrecking yard and swapped it in.

Yeah I wish I had time to dig for one, but a remaned one from jasper was the best option. I need it back on the road. It's at the shop now waiting for jasper to build me an axle, should have the truck back middle of next week.

Well the rear end looked like you threw a grenade in with it..... Buying a rebuilt one from japser.... I think I might start crying at any moment.

sorry to hear that. I thought the 08s were supposed to be the better year of the 04-08 f150s.
How did the gear oil look? Was it thick or still in good condition?
anything you might think led up to this?

My truck is an 05. 08 is when I graduated high school. 170k plus miles and big tires and towing add up to stress on gear teeth. Kinda weird I has a rear end go before a tranny.

Just curious, but have you ever serviced the rear diff to make sure the fluid was full and or ever changed it since you purchased it?

Yes, it was changed once with amsoil from you, then I had to change axle bearings not long ago, so I changed it again. I did find a lot of shaving and chunks of metal last time.... Just kinda bolted it back up after cleaning it out. Guess the limited slip just decided to go. Ring and pinion looked ok for 170k plus miles.

That's my bad I thought your sig was suggesting your truck was an 08.
05 isn't that surprising. I read about quite a few people having the issue early on but it is strange that your tranny hasn't gone by now. Hopefully it stays strong.

If I remember correctly your truck has a 8.8 right? If I were you I would get a beefier 9.75 and do the gear swap now.

Can't afford anything but to put back what came in it for now. 8.8 it is
Not to be a jerk but I know a thing or two about the parts business. For what it cost to have the 8.8 built for you by whoever, you can get a used 9.75 rearend way cheaper. Who knows what parts are going into the 8.8. A 9.75 will handle the tires and any extra torque you throw at it. I'm sure there are parts yards around your area. Just my 2 cents. This is the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a stronger diff if you ever plan on getting even bigger tires or adding power to your truck. If you are dead set on keeping the 8.8 then go on the bronco forums or the mustang forums to see how they beef their 8.8s. Get informed about whats going into your rebuilt diff. I've seen way too many guys get jipped by fancy shops that sell them a glorified receipt and a junky rear diff.

Getting a jasper rear end with 100,000 mile warranty, I'm no fool. I understand what you're saying, but I can't risk a junk yard diff at this point in time. Most 9.75 come with the 3.73 and I'm not paying to upgrade the front at this point in time. I'm just no getting out of college and about to start my job. My truck is my daily driver and need it on the road ASAP. This is the best I could do with the situation.

And I made the shop show me what parts they would put in it and the cost, the remaned jasper was cheaper and I've had good past experience with them on my grandfathers farm trucks.
