First off...I have never been fan of Wranglers in the past. I had a new Grand Cherokee Limited w/V8 in college and loved it. Now I realize that isn't a true Jeep to all the purists out there but the Wrangler never did anything for me...until recently.

The Wrangler Unlimited has really caught my eye the last few months. The 2012 is going to have the gutsier Pentastar V6 and the reviews indicate the performance is vastly improved. Plus the 4 door really appeals to me so I decided to price one out today.

~$35k...seriously? I experienced a little sticker shock to say the least. Granted, it was a loaded Rubicon but damn. Not sure I can bring myself to pay that much for a Wrangler.

I hear you. We have been browsing lately too. I have avoided replacing the Tahoe, but the time is coming.

I dragged momma to the Jeep lot, and we checked one out here. It was $36K and change, she said that is the last time we go on a Jeep lot.

Likely another Tahoe is in our future.

It's almost scary what they cost new

I like letting some yuppie lease it for two years, never drive it, then i pick it up for half the price and still basically brand new :D

You can't go wrong with a Tahoe IMO.

Yeah that's the way to do it. It seems like the pre-owned Wranglers around here still bring top dollar though.

I just want a Wrangler for a play toy (still don't think I could DD one) and there is no way I'm paying remotely close to $35k so pre-owned is the only option if I get serious about it.

The last real Wrangler was made in 2006. Find a real Rubicon from 05-06 and you have a real Jeep. The 4.0 and 5 speed setup is fantastic... and the Rubicon has the good axles for wheeling.

Unless you are planning on wheeling, there really is no other reason to buy a Wrangler. They don't do daily driving well, but they are awesome off road. Personally, I would stay away from the 07 up plastic Jeep with the fragile Chrysler V6. The jury is still out on the newest engine that came out this year.

I'd go with an '05ish LJ.

04-06 is a better made Jeep. Many people don't buy Jeeps for use as a Jeep, which is why they have girliefied the interiors, made them four door, and made the newer models drive like a car.

SAD.

Now I like both the silver Jeeps you guys posted.

But I won't do any serious off-roading. Maybe a few local trails and splashing around through some creeks...maybe. Obviously I wouldn't be using it for it's intended purpose.

They have started catching my attention lately is all. :dunno:
