Once the truck was in Reno we ended up in another temporary apartment and I needed to get a different transmission so I would have something to drive for work on the other side of Nevada.

I changed out an SM465 at night with a flashlight strapped to my head in this parking space.

The reason I had to do it at night is because of HOA rules, I could have got evicted if they caught me. I actually bought 2 SM465's, first one was a ten spline output and mine was 35 or 32 or some shit. So now I have a total of 3 of these boat anchors laying around.

That made me laugh. Props for getting it done, but struck me funny. I've spent many hours under vehicles at night, but never thought to strap a flashlight to my head.

I will be watching this thread to see how the build progresses.

I have a light like that. Makes you look like you're a miner. Pretty handy buggers too.

I just thought it was ambitious to do the swap in 1 night! Heck, whenever I finally remove one of my transmissions, it'll probably take at least 2 days.

Half the battle of owning an old truck like this is tackling the issues that drive you nuts, mine happen to be a dead spot under acceleration.

For starters I found a Carter AFB on craigslist for 40 bucks and got a rebuild kit and adapter from the Summit Racing retail store in Sparks Nv. Third carb rebuild on the same truck. Also forgot to mention the TPS billit distributor with a clear cap I bought from a friend on another forum. If anyone can spot the problem in that engine bay picture you are one bad ass mo fo.

First decent size project I tackled was wheel bearings, I had a spanner nut come loose on the trip to Reno and it caused some funk inside the hub so I spent the 50 bucks and got all new shit. I also got an awesome deal on a parts washer so I started cleaning and painting everything I work on.

Next project was the power steering, my steering box leaked and my wife drove my truck to school without power steering fluid and burned up the new pump. I was trying to order new pinion seals but ended up ordering an entire gasket set rebuild kit for the steering box.

I put it all together and it was a disaster, I ended up just spending the 160 bucks and getting a reman power steering box. The pump was free since I save all my recipes.
