That winch is for my tractor and to pull stuff onto my trailers. I just wanted to have some fun and see how it looked on the truck.
Okay, from the beginning. There are a LOT of crappy drivers here. When they get stuck during bad weather, snow, and block a road they inconvenience ME as I can't get to where I am going. I also had to push a friends truck UP his driveway to get mine inside his heated garage to install my alarm/starter. We had to hold a roll of pink insulation between the trucks so I wouldn't trash the front of mine doing it. After that I picked up a set of police push bumpers for my truck off Craigslist. Since I have to remove the whole bumper and stuff to make mounts for them and snow is already coming (i have to do my work in my driveway) I came across front mounted receivers while surfing and thought it would make an elegant solution to my needs.
It installed super easy. It's hidden and all I have to do is make a nice cap to plug the skirt hole. I can make accessories as needed like cargo carriers, a step platform for engine work, a winch mount (for when I get a BIGGER winch), and I can adapt the push bumpers to mount in the receiver and nothing has to stay hanging on the truck. Everything I make can be used on the rear receiver, also.
I know I can do a lot with a tow strap and I often do. But again, people are stoopid, and I don't like being attached to an unpredictable noob when he hits the gas by mistake. I feel safer giving someone a quick push and they can rocket away into a ditch without taking me with them. Push bars to clear the road and the winch to save MY sorry butt.
Now I can get a road cleared, maybe make some tip money, and be on my merry way. I just may keep that baby winch in the truck as I have been stuck on ice or humped up to the frame in snow many times and only needed a small amount to get moving.
There. That's my story and I'm stickin' too it!
