Not going to be pretty, will mostly be functional ...

Looks like it just may do the job ..

Might have room for the mount to bolt on to the tail housing ..
Not sure if it will work with the 4x4 adapter cause they are not the same as a two wheel drive ..
Need a 4x4 adapter to check the fit ..
Got one but it's already been installed in the truck ..

Found a whole transmission 2004 4L80E 4x4 that has the adapter still on it ... Cool

Tomorrow will nail the adapter to my test case and dial in the fit ..

!!! Like a Rock !!!

Shouldn't have any shake when shifting the transfer shifter ..

Went dumpster diving and found this piece of rust ...

1711388315069.png

After a bit of clean up, thought it would work for the shifter to trans top mount ..

1711388435255.png

Not sure about how tall I can make it ..
Would like to see the part where the shift lever bolts on to be right at the bottom of the floor pan..

Guess I better install the homemade trans mount on the trans in the truck and do the final fit ...

1711400308198.png

The shift rods from the transfer case to the shifter will need to be extended too ...
Got some work yet to do ... But, it's getting there !

Still waiting for the slab of aluminum to make up the transmission to crossmember mount spacer ...
Should be here this week ..

Just did a test fit on the truck's trans ..
Don't have as much room above the trans as I thought I did.
Might not be using the dumpster steel plate ..
Need to rethink the shifter mount ..

The over the top of the trans mount bolted up super easy ..
Going to sleep on it and go on the attack tomorrow ..
May see the need for some more dumpster diving ??

Back to the test case ..

Tring to find the right spot that I want the shift lever to be at in the floor ..

Extending the shifter rods is going well, couldn't find the 7/16" round stock in a dumpster so I made a trip to Ace Hardware ..

No clue where to weld the og rods to the new just yet, got to mount up the shifter and do some measuring ...

Got the transmission crossmember yet to contend with ...
Was wanting to use the og K10 that was on the truck ..
With the 4L80 4x4 adapter in play, required making up a spacer, was told that a crossmember from a pre 87 K30 might net a better mount with no need for the made up spacer ..??

Thinking of finding one and see if it would do the task ..
Don't think the spacer would cause any problems, but I'm all for a better solution for this dilemma ..

Been eyeballing what the "Tejas SteelWorks" Boys has to offer too ..

Aftermarket may have the best gig going for this .. ?
More research will be in the works ..

Slowly getting all required work done to install the 4L85 ..
Have just a bit more to do on the transfer case shifter and dealing with both driveshafts ..

The journey been a long one with this exasperating modification, not to mention the Rubes it's seen !!

At this point in time I'm waiting to make a 30 mile trip for the needed angle iron .. Do want to get the T-case shifter done ..
... ASAP ...

Also waiting on the store bought crossmember to get here ..
Have been working on the doors, finish installing the keyless door locks, rebuilding both vent windows went well ...
The electric windows are about done too ..

Still in the middle of working the dash ...
Got to install the power unit on the cowl vent door, wasn't intending to do power on it but didn't have much of a choice after making up the pod for the AC control switches and center vents ..

341877475_545745690972997_168984338343869582_n.jpg

Made it from another R-Series dashboard ...

341173829_183408534517791_832412302411034583_n.jpg

After a test fit was done seen a problem with access working the cowl vent handle ... That's when the idea came to me to add power and delete the handle ..

343056637_1373265829897537_571029090001726775_n.jpg

This job is on the table yet to get done ..

Some other work will go down when the dash work starts up ..

1643936588003.png

Found a NOS one of these ... That's on the work menu ..

Interesting history on the eye..
Oldsmobile first came on line with it in 1952 followed by the other GM divisions ..

Seems Olds was the leader with the new ideas ..

Remember the J2 package for 57-58 ?
