Well my buddies dad owns a shop and I can get most any tires at wholesale no markup to me. So I looked say a month or two ago and looked up 285/70/17 terra grapplers. They were 650 and I could mount them myself at the shop for free. Well I called his dad today to order them and it turns out the company they use (ATD Tire) doesn't carry the tire anymore except in a 10-ply which is 950 out the door and on top of that I have no desire for a 10-ply. So Question is do i go 850 for 295/70/17 or is there another tire which i would like better at a good price. I will not put bridgestones or firestones on though. Mud or all terrain doesnt matter:flag:

In my experience the Load range E tire lasts a lot longer then the Load range D tire even if it's just on a half ton.

E rated tires ride like crap on a half ton truck. I had a set of BFG all terrain E rated on one of my trucks. NEVER AGAIN... I'm sure covered wagons rode better.

Stick with a lower rating. You'll be glad you did.

I have never noticed the difference in ride quality between a Load Range D or E tires. The load range E tires lasted a good 15k-20k miles longer...

My E rated M/S2's ride better than the stock tires by a long shot!

There's not a big difference it price between the D rated and E rated, though...

I would've went with the D rated tires if they had them in stock, however...

If you're not hauling or carrying extra weight on a regular basis, and maintain your tire pressures, and rotate your tires regularly, you'll get damned near as much life out of them as you would an E rated tire.

I can't give you any good advice. My last three trucks have been 3/4 ton trucks, and I always run an all terrain E rated tire.
