Prices at the gas-gas station on Monday jumped from about 40 cents to 88 cents per liter. Eyewitnesses reported that police in the capital, Abuja, using tear gas to disperse dozens of people who will protest because the new price of fuel it.
Nigeria Labour Congress and the Congress of Trade Unions said in the coming days they will call a strike and mass demonstrations throughout Nigeria. The two groups said in a joint statement that the removal of subsidies was "callous and insensitive."

That would be pretty close... and it was around $1.75 before the subsidy was removed...
