Hey guys, so I'd like to get a little more bass out of my stereo, but without the "non factory" look. So what are my options for adding a sub to my stock GMT-400 ('96) radio? It only has a casette player, and no external cd player or security.

Also what would be a good size amp and sub to go with for a regular cab truck, with the goal being to be able to get a decent thump out of it but nothing too crazy.

From further research I see that I'm gunna need a low level converter to rca, and then just tap into the rear speaker wires and that will go into the amp? I'm assuming you mean at least a 200 watt amp?
Also, I was considering only running 1 sub, would there be a very noticeable difference?

Also, any reccomendations for a cheaper amp and subs, I'd really like to spend as little as possible, but not have a cobbled up set-up either. Also I see the compact powered subs are these crappy?

Thanks in advance guys

You still get what you pay for just like anything else. I think the one 12" kicker cvt will suit your needs just fine. They amp will cost you the most. You will want one that offers the power the sub calls for.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on some goodies after more research and some reccomendations from a crutchfield rep. I went with a Boston accoustics 400 watt amp (GTA-400m), it has speaker level inputs which eliminates the need for a converter. Along with the amp I ordered the optional adjustment knob that can be mounted where it can be easily accessed to adjust bass levels on the fly. And for the sub I went with an Alpine Type S 10", which for listening to country should be adequate and I found a great deal on it aswell. I also figured I might as well not go cheap on the wiring and ordered a knu customs after seeing many good review.

As far as mounting plans go, I'll be building a custom box most likely for under the seat because of the plastic tray on the back wall. And I'll either be mounting the amp like I did my CB on the back wall behind the seat or underneath the passenger seat. But I'm not sure if I'll want the sub under me or on the passenger side, I'm kind of thinking on the passenger side because I don't think I'll want a constant thumping under me.

I'll be doing a write-up and getting the thread slicked up later.

A properly set up sub won't "thump" It will be the part of the music you feel.
