Why buy new when you can restore?
So you're buying it back and walking away with $7700 to fix it?
My advice is start with CraigsList. It's cheaper to buy from private parties. If you can't find what you need, you'll have to resort to junkyards. While they are always my last resort (mostly due to prices), sometimes they are the only way. If you can, find a U-Pull-It yard. They sell parts cheaper since they don't pay someone to remove the parts.

If you have a place to park or store your truck, then go ahead and buy it back. Even if you decide afterwards to but something else, you can sell the wrecked truck for probably more than twice what you pay to buy it back. If not, fix it up and put an 06 front on it.

It's only been about a week and a half, have some patience and it will all come together. Finding a good used truck in your price range is not going to be too difficult, but it might take a while for the right one to come up. You have something else to drive, you are not walking, and your parents are trying............just be patient. Just my $.02.

I totally understand your position. YOU know what you want and YOU appear to be willing to pay a little more to get it. Your DAD on the other hand does not seem to understand this concept that much and is more willing to compromise, but HE isn't driving it and paying for it....YOU are. He also doesn't have to pay for gas in it!
