What brand of sockets were they?

"Made in Taiwan"

WINNER! Just a cheap set, but still I have had to torque many things done and undone and they have held up great so far, and that was the first time I have the 13 mm too, so I dont know WTf, as per who put it on before, that would be the dealer!
I was going to guess maybe it was a set that he won in the TMC Prize give away? Crieps... that dealer tightened the crap out of it!

Jerk probably used an impact gun on the plug. I hate that stuff. Carelessness. He could have done some serious damage. I wouldnt go back to where did the work.

I've broken lots of socket before when I've used "made in taiwan" tools. But over the years I've built up a decent amount of all CRAFTSMAN tools. The only craftsman I've ever had snap was when I was using a 3/8 inch drive socket on a 1/2 inch ratchet with an adapter. And it wasnt the socket that snapped, the adapter did. If you dont fork over the money for Craftman, get a Stanley set. That what we have at work since they wont fork out the dough for more expensive tools. At for we had some cheap crap that we broke all up , stripped the ratchets and split sockets, etc. The stanley set my boss picked up at wallymart has held up quite well .

yeah it was my first tool purchase, it was a set of 80 tools for $30, so its not a huge loss, but still, eventually I will buy a good, or as I break stuff I will buy better and will have a better set...

That sucks on breaking those sockets. That plug was on there, and like stated above good thing it didn't strip the threads. That would not have been good.

As for the filter change out, next time put a large ziplock bag over it before you get it loose enough to let oil out, that way the oil will go into the bag and not on you.

You snapped a socket on a drain plug?!?! WOW! Thats crazy, that must have been so over torqued. Your lucky it didnt strip the threads out of the pan. Congratulations on getting it done though. Nothing like the satisfaction of doing a job yourself.

I'm definitely going to do that the next time I change mine. The oil running down the filter/hand is the only messy part of doing it on these trucks.
