No I was just foolin around out there, I'm gonna hit it hard in the AM. When you said stepped, did you mean the first pic? The first pic is with the bearings still on the crank, they just rolled.....so hopefully thats my spun bearing right there.
It's hard to tell from the pics but in this one I think I'm seeing a step in the journal, just after the fillet. It should be a smooth transition from the fillet straight into the journal area, but it looks like a step in it.

EDIT: Here's a quick paint, pointing to the area I was talking about.

It can be welded. A .020 bearing (if you can even find one) isn't going to fill that gap, for sure!

I have heard they are. I'm having a bear of a time trying to get the crank out, I've got 4 pistons off the crank and 3 mains but one main is stuck and the crank still wont turn to get to the other rod caps.....

I called my machinist and he got pretty excited when I spoke of the engine. He's usually a pretty serious guy and only talks when he needs to, but he was like "I havent seen one of them in 15 years"! lol

I'm going to bring him the block and crank next week.

me and my grandpa have an all original 1965 gmc 5000 with the 305 v6 and 5 speed with 2 speed brownie transmission, its on tandem axles in the rear and has a hydraulic 14 yard solid steel box, was custom built brand new by the city of vancouver where my uncle works, he is manager of city. he bought the truck from the city about 20 years ago when he was driving truck for them. the city sold the truck to him and my grandpa when they were going to decomission it. their original plan was to haul it to the junk yard, but it was in such mint condition we couldnt let it go. its been sitting there ever since and has original paint, not too bad of shape. everything is all 100% original except for the new fuel pump and air valve. we are going to paint it this month, i will make a video and takes some pictures and post it on here for you guys. this truck is amazing we start it once a year and it fires right up, no hesitation or nothing and doesnt die out. god this engine and truck is amazing i love it. and i will never let the truck go, i will be sure to post some things of the truck here soon this month when i get chance.
