Pretty interesting read here...

In 2011, the Volt barely reached 75 percent of projected sales. GM had planned to expand production to 60,000 vehicles in 2012 but so far has only sold a little over 1,500.
This bailout and jobs program thinly veiled as some sort of automotive breakthrough has been incredibly expensive. The base model Volt is listed with and MSRP of $31,645 however when considering state and federal government subsidies the cost per vehicle dwarfs the MSRP. With $2.3 billion coming from the federal government alone, total subsidies are well over $3 billion for the program. This makes the cost of each Volt sold well over $200,000.
Once again the Obama Administration has expanded the deficit funding a program that’s only as green as all the money it has burned through.

GM sure hyped the Volt. It's an embarrassment to them if it dies for sure. Not looking so good at this point.

When gas prices soar, these cars are all the talk... when prices stabilize, Americans go right back to SUVs and Trucks.

I'm sure the Focus electric will be a flop as well.

I'm sure, I wasn't posting that to make it a Ford/Chevy debate, just interesting seeing the Volt's 200K cost. Amazing how much money is being wasted in trying to go "green".

Ford's attempt will also be a failure, that wasn't my point... :dunno:

If they'd just make them to run on political bullshit we'd be energy independent by dinner time.

Neither was I. I am stating the truth just like Zem. Electric cars are not going to catch on as long as they are an expensive commodity. It's to bad really. I support electric cars. The more gas those people save, the more there is for me to burn in my truck. I think I am like a lot of guys on here in that cars are useless to me for the most part. I could not sustain my current way of life without a truck. So if gas goes to $10 a gallon. Guess what. Still not trading in my truck.
