I noticed this morning that I hear it when its cold and I start the truck but the second I put it in reverse to back out of the driveway it is gone. Why would this be? Because I'm putting a load on the engine at that point?

Not sure why it happens for you, mine doesn't matter load or not it still is there for a few seconds.

Once in a while, I'll hear something when I start it. But it goes away after a few seconds. :dunno:

That's how my Sierra was.. I would sometimes hear it when the engine was cold, but it would go away after a few seconds..

So now that I'm using my remote start I don't hear it. Out of sight out of mind! :jester:

I think that was my issue with the 07. Then one day I actually started it in cold weather with the key after sitting...yikes! That was the day I took it to the dealer, and they put the new AFM lifters in it. Was all good after that.

Mine does it now and then but mainly when parked at an angle in my other drive way that has steep grade. It should not be an issue and cause this but I took it to the dealer and them document the noise with they called normal. I just asked them to place it in the service histry that it was brought in and that they called it normal...just in case.

A shorter skirt is going to be less of an issue and you don't need to worry about the skirt collapsing like you would in a small block of yester year. I personally have always been a fan of a looser piston to wall fit, short skirt pistons and tight bearing clearances with strait mains and cranks ground on index, good rods and rod bolts when building older small blocks or big blocks of any engine make.
