If the G80 code isn't listed (which it isn't), you should have an open diff.

That's what I'm thinking, yet, there's ample circumstantial evidence that it might be a posi. (ie: the ruts in my driveway it dug with all four rear wheels, the fact it will throw twin rooster tails of snow, the symptoms of the problem which sound like a clutch pack not releasing, etc.)

I checked the dealer history on it and the rear was never changed, but I wonder if the shop that took the cab & chassis and completed the truck could have put a posi in it?

I know... more questions than answers... :dunno:

I'll crawl under it tomorrow and see what I find on the axle tubes.

If both sets of wheels have the same amount of traction, they'll both spin...

My open diffed S10 spun both wheels alls day long when both were on ice, but when one was on pavement and the other on ice, only the one on the ice would spin.

No G80 code = No locker/LSD

Easy way to find out, jack one side up off the ground and put it in drive, if it moves then you got your answer. Or you can take the cover off and take a look see. I know of some good gear oil. :)

I wish I could... Have you seen pictures of my driveway?

Gonna go out a little later and get the stamped codes on the axle tube and see if that tells me anything.

A long time ago, there was a wheel balancing technique, where they put a ring inside the outer edge of the wheel and then rolled a machine up to the wheel to spin it and balanced the tire and wheel assembly while it was still on the car.

I was getting the wheels balanced on my 1970, 340 Duster with POSI.

I was inside the office paying for it, when I saw him jack the rear of the car up... put a wooden Coke crate under one wheel and then get in the car to start the engine and spin the "OTHER" tire that he had the balance ring on...

I went running out toward the car but I was too late.
He gave it gas and the wheel on the Coke crate sent the wooden crate flying out of the open door and out across the parking lot.
It JUST BARELY missed hitting a woman who was walking across the parking lot.
I quit getting my wheels balanced that way...

Never did get around to crawling under the truck today, but I did happen to catch the sound happening again, this time with the windows open. It sounds now like it's a front tire scrubbing, which would be a camber issue and not the diff.

As far as I can tell though the alignment is pretty good. No unusual tire wear, no pulling. :dunno:

Yeah, I know. :D2

And if I add a front diff and a transfer case I could have 6x6 :naughty:

That'd be sweet  Give them mud bogger doods some competition

If you do have an open diff a Detroit Locker would fit in there real nice :D

Yup, but not a job I'd want to tackle on my own without a shop and the right equipment/tools, so I'd have to pay for the install. That could put it right out of my price range. :(
