You said it revs up when the clutch is pushed in which would make sense if the throttle cable was stuck because you'd be taking the load off the engine. I'd check that as well. Good idea Jim!

Alright, I finally have the time to work on the EGR valve. I have the EGR off and have pulled the gasket off it, but there is still some stuck to the EGR.

Here's a pic of the EGR. Does this metal screen come off or stay on? The new gasket does not have a screen on it.

This is a pic of the side of the gasket that faces the EGR, not the engine.

Can someone explain how the hell this thing works? All I see is a Torx screw, the hole with the screen, and 3 tiny holes that seem to be worthless since they get covered by the gasket. It is a lot heavier than I was expecting.

Anyone? I apologize for my impatience on this one, but I need to drive my truck!

The bottom one is the old gasket.
Well, the screen is still on the EGR. I don't know if it was part of the old gasket or part of the EGR. Then new gasket does not have a screen.

The screen is part of the gasket. It is now cooked onto the valve. The screen is not part of the valve.

Well, the screen popped off using a flat screwdriver in about 2 seconds.

So can I just spray carb cleaner in both holes and not damage anything? (its pretty darn black in there after 174k)

I am with Scott on that and just be sure not to get anything in the intake while you are cleaning...

I went the opposite direction with the Egr gasket on my truck... "Blocker Plate"

I'm not getting anything in the intake. I'm in the house. Its 10deg outside and maybe 30-35 in the garage.

Well, if the EGR acts up, its getting the blocker plate. EGR = $128; blocker plate = gotta be a lot less

Can I just spray the carb cleaner in both holes to clean it out?
