I was curious about some of the newer trucks and the packaging of options as I was curious about Ford's new Ecoboost, and it looks like with both Ford and GM you cannot get the bigger engines in a base model reg cab short bed truck. I wanted to try to build a lightweight with either fords ecoboost or new 6.2, or Chevys 6.2 and no matter what you do it won't let you option them that way! Only extended cabs and up. Why? Dodge has a special R/T package now that gets you the Hemi in a 2wd reg cab short bed and a bunch of sporty options, and I think you can still get the Tundra in a base configuration with the 5.7, but whats up with Ford and Chevy? I think a F150 XLT with just a couple options, 2wd reg cab short bed with the new ecoboost would be a good platform to start modifying to make it haul balls. Would it be possible to walk into a dealer and sit down and start checking boxes with a sales rep like the good old days to get exactly what you wanted?

Can't you just settle for a Work Truck? 2wd, RCLB, 6.0 or 6.2 in a GM.

Someone wrote an article saying that Work Trucks are as close as you'll come to a Sport Truck since they have bigger engines and are usually lighter weight since they don't have all the interior stuff. Then, you could add/swap whatever you want in the interior.

Someone just posted an article on here about Dodge's new "work man's" truck or something like that, with a 5.7L in a RCSB, but I don't think GM or Ford have anything like this.

GM and Ford sell almost NO RCSB trucks. It's something like 3%. I'm surprised they still make em (but I'm glad). Such a small market vehicle isn't going to get all of the goodies... It's just not profitable.

You could do that, but no one wants a plain jane looking truck with a long bed. I think you can go to a dealer and try and get a special order from the factory. I've seen a few trucks like that, but I've heard that the wait times can be up to a few months.

Im not a fan of the RCLB, it would have to be a short bed. But I don't see why a special factory order couldn't be made. When the body rolls on down the line someone just needs to hit the button that tells the machines which engines to install to throw in the ecoboost.

Gotta go Ram!

http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/2011/02/ram-adventurer-announced

d3c3a_dodge-ram-adventurer-1.jpg

The long-rumored Ram Adventurer pickup was just announced by the Ram Truck division people. Aimed at first-time buyers, the truck has not yet actually been named; Adventurer is the code name. The Adventurer is currently planned to have a Hemi V8 engine with 20 mpg highway, at the same price competitors use for their V6 models.
Dealers can already order the Adventurer, though the actual launch has been delayed due to the enthusiastic response to the Ram Tradesman.
Aside from the 390-horsepower Hemi V8, the truck will come with a monochromatic paint scheme. A body-colored grille with black honeycomb inserts is combined with body-colored front fascia and body-colored rear fascia; chrome-tipped dual exhausts emphasize the engine’s performance. Also standard will be fog lamps, 20-inch aluminum wheels with locking lug nuts, a locking tailgate, cargo lamp, rear-bumper step pad, 6” x 9” side-view mirrors, and rear wheel-well liners.
Other standard features include a 160-amp alternator, 26-gallon fuel tank, 3.55 rear axle ratio, 700-amp maintenance-free battery, four and seven-pin trailer wiring harness, heavy-duty front and rear shock absorbers, front and rear stabilizer bars, power rack-and-pinion steering, halogen headlamps,
and a full-size spare tire.
Inside, the new truck will get a vinyl 40/20/40 split-bench seat, and buyers will have a choice of vinyl or carpeted floor covering. Standard comforts include air conditioning, tachometer, 12-volt outlet, tilt steering wheel, six-speaker media center, audio input jack, automatic headlamps, behind-the-seat storage bins, driver and passenger assist handles, power accessory delay, rear dome lamp, rear-view day/night mirror, tinted glass windows, tip start, and variable intermittent windshield wipers.
For safety, the Ram will include supplemental front curtain and side air bags, anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control, height-adjust shoulder belts, sentry key theft deterrent system, and tire pressure monitoring warning lamp.
It will be available in Bright Silver Metallic, Bright White, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl, Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl; Deep Water Blue Pearl; Flame Red, Hunter Green Pearl and Mineral Gray Metallic.
Factory-installed exterior options include Mopar chrome tubular side steps, Mopar chrome steel bed rails, folding and heated trailer-tow power mirrors with supplemental signals and courtesy lamps, spray-in bedliner and under-rail bedliner.
Inside, buyers can choose a cloth 40/20/40 split-bench seat, Uconnect voice command with Bluetooth, rear-view auto-dim mirror, remote USB port, sliding rear window, cruise control, instrument cluster with vehicle information center display screen, tire pressure monitoring display, power one-touch windows, remote keyless entry, Sirius Satellite Radio and either carpet or rubber floor mats
There’s also choice of two optional rear-axle ratios (3.21, 3.92), anti-spin differential, engine block heater and trailer brake controller.
Ram Adventurer comes as a regular cab, short-bed model, with a choice of 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain. When equipped with an optional Class IV hitch, the new Ram will tow a maximum trailer weight of 10,450 lbs.
The list price will start at just $23,830, including destination charge; the truck is expected to hit dealerships in the second quarter of 2011.

Well, the only way I see them not doing a custom truck is if they do in fact stop selling RCSB which would get rid of the shortest frame they make.

Are the frames the same for RCLB, ECSB, and Crew Cab 5'8" bed?
I always thought they were. :dunno:

FWIW...you can get a RCLB GMT-900 with over 750 pound feet of torque from the factory.
