So this afternoon, I got ready to leave the office headed to a site location in my work truck ('10 F350 v10 4x4). The truck had been sitting about a week and was fine when I parked it and has never had any prior issues (19k miles).

When I first started it, it began flashing warnings on the message center "Tire Pressure Monitor Fault", "Check Brake System", "Door Ajar", etc. Also, the radio and none of the lights would turn on or work at all. I called the dealership where I took delivery, and they said they could get it in in a few days, but since it was modified by an upfitter, they would probably have to ship it back to them if it was an electrical issue (BS!!!).

I started to cancel my trip, but decided to run it by a Ford dealership not too far from my office. The service manager had no clue, and he said all the techs were probably gone, but he would check. Came back a little later with a tech, who, when he heard what it was doing said he might know a fix. He disconnected the negative battery cable and let it sit for a little bit, then hooked it back up and everything worked. He said it was basically a "hard boot" for the "computer" and said that he had seen it on Expiditions a lot. I left with everything working.

Drove about 120 miles, and right before I got to where I am staying tonight, everything went haywire again on the (now dark) interstate. Lights and radio went off, all the warnings started flashing again, etc. I got off on an exit (happened to be right next to it) and again disconnected the negative battery terminal, which seemed to reset everything again.

I am now concerned because it would seem to me that there is some deeper issue here. I am headed to a site tomorrow that is about 100 miles of hwy then 24 miles of rough mtn road (3 hrs after you leave the hwy) from here. It hasn't failed to start or run yet, but I am not sure what the real cause might be and if it will cause a "bigger" failure while I am in the middle of nowhere. My only other idea is that it may be a grounding issue of some sort, so I will probably crawl under it before I leave in the AM to see if I can find the grounds.

So on to my questions:

Has anyone with a Ford ever had issues like this?

If so, what was the solution?

Where are the body grounds on an F350 v10 located?

Anything else I should check?

Sorry for the book, so Cliff's version:

F350 flashes warnings and lights and radio won't work
Unhooking the negative battery terminal resets it and everything is ok
Repeats the fault after 120 miles and again unhooking battery resets
See questions above.

I don't know what to say to fix it but it might be worth the extra time to reset the thing once more before you leave civilization so to speak. You know pull over to a gas station before you get way out in the sticks and reset it. :dunno:

Think it would be worth unhooking it now and letting it set overnight?

I disconnected it and guess I will give that a try. I guess it will either be cured by morning or not start at all! :dunno:

Seems like a loose connection; frame ground from block or starter to main ground junction?

Is there a maxi fuse block with a large gauge power wire on this one? Maybe a loose connection there?

Sorry, just don't know the layout of a newer Ford, but have seen similar issues on larger trucks.

i would unhook battery.. and all cell phone chargers and anything that would store power... after battery is unhooked turn the head lights on and let it set for 15 mins... then turn the headlights off.. hook battery back up....and try that... ...x2 on checking grounds... or even a bad battery

Well, I unhooked the battery and let it set overnight. Made it to my site and back today, put on roughly 350 miles including almost 50 miles of very rough roads (about 5 hours to go 50 miles). It didn't act up again, but I am still going to check all the grounds, etc. that I can find. It was still dark when I left this morning, so I didn't check anything then. If it does it again, it will go back to the dealership (the one with the helpful tech, the one I took delivery from can kiss my azz with their attitude).

Guess I better hold off on the gas can and matches! :jrod:
