Well recently my truck started misfiring mildly but there were no codes or anything so I continued to drive it, taking it easy of course. Well a couple weeks ago it started missing terribly and finally the CEL came on.. Read the codes and they were p0352 and p0302. I replaced the coil and nothing, pulled the plug and it had detonated. Replaced plug still nothing, swapped injectors, still nothing. Finally did a compression test and it only read 60psi compared to 130psi on #1. Added a little oil and did another compression test still 60psi so now I'm in the process of pulling the heads and getting them redone.

Sucks to hear you're having troubles. What year and mileage?

Sadly this is a common issue with the 4.6/5.4. I have a buddy in Austin that is paying for his ranch rebuilding them.

Bottom line? Once you are done, you'll have a reliable truck again for many miles.

06 with 123k, debated 3 grand for a reman but decide for around $600-800 was better.. It's turning into a good father son project though.. Just a lot of time involved

Got the head off finally, turns out the intake valve isn't sealing off. Anybody have experience with this? I don't know, valve look fine, possible lifter? Rocker arm? Anyways, here's the pics

Change of plans! Getting the heads rebuilt is gonna be 500 bucks.. So why not rebuild the whole thing while we're this far in?

Started the tear down, replacing main bearings, rod bearings, rings, all new gaskets on the way, pcv, water pump and just a basic good cleaning of engine bay.
