Driving the chevy back to the shop this morning to get my truck, i was in some light traffic when all of a sudden I smell smoke, then I see somke coming from under the hood, just then the engine dies beforei can look at the gauges, but I'm pretty sure the water was at 210. So I pull over assuming the engine just blew....this all happened while driving next to danielle but she couldnt get over in time and was headed to work...so she kept going and called me. So I pop the hood and hop out of the truck, then my phone rings so I walk around to the passenger side to talk to her before I try to open the hood. Well when I got around to the passenger side I look through the fender and see the engine on fire! Told danielle "holy $h!t its on fire" So I grabbed our jug of water for the radiator and start pouring it on the fire but it doesn't go out, it had melted the fuel line so a gallon of water did nothing. So I stepped back and watched it burn for a few seconds then a guy comes running up with a fire extinguisher and says "looks like you have a little bit of a problem" lol so anyways one little spirt of the extinguisher and it was out. Thanked the man and offered to buy him a new extinguiser but he insisted I didn't and said to keep that one incase it started again. So I call danielle back and she told me she had called 911 and told them the truck was on fire, so I told her it was out and she called them back and told them the fire was out. So I called my dad to have him come tow me to the shop. Then a cop pulled up to see if everything was ok. Then danielle got back there. So while waiting for my dad we start to think like leo and I suggest an ls swap haha. But we got it to the shop and looking around we can't figure out what happened, it was still full of oil, no electrical fire, nothing other than the normal oil leak from the oil pressure line. Well there was one thing, on the hoodon the passenger side it was soaked with oil, and it looked like the entire passenger side engine compartment had been lightly sprayed with oil. So we plan to replace the melted wires and hoses and try starting it to see what happens.
Moral of the story, keep a fire extinguisher in your truck.
