Hey guys... trying to size up my dads Christmas present for this year. I want to get him an electric boat winch. I've NEVER researched or bought an electric boat winch.

Im going to get exact specs on his boat... but I believe its a Four Winns, I think 24' and around 5000-6000 lbs and the trailer is self centering with a lot of rollers.

Suggestions?

I was looking at this one:

Figure I should be good with a 4500lb double-line capacity...

I'd like to know how that works out. I know nothing about these. Apparently I am not the only one here!

Only thing i'm not sure about is whether i'm going to set it up with the pulley block... His boat+engine is 6300lb, figure with gear & gas probably around 7500lb; so the 4000lb single line rating should be able to handle an 8000lb boat without much trouble. The pulley block will make it even easier, but half the speed.

We'll probably test it out both ways late in the winter while we have a dock to ourselves.

How did you make out with this? Even though the weight of the boat is that much, it's still in the water being loaded and on rollers, so that shouldn't be too much for that winch to handle.

Haven't installed it yet... we'll be testing it out this spring :D

And yes, it's not only in the water, but it's also not lifting the dead weight of the boat either- the trailer/rollers carry most of the weight, the winch just pulls it. (kind of like how i can push a 5000 lb vehicle by myself... but no way in hell can i lift 5000 lb)

I'm just a fan of overkill
