Now if they just made the tests include stopping...:jester:

I would certainly hope and expect they do.

The article says nothing about stopping the load. It talks about being able to accelerate and pull the load it up a certain grade at a certain speed without overheating or other failure...:dunno:

I honestly think most tow ratings exceed the capabilities of a 1500 chassis and brakes if the operator towed that amount on any kind of a regular basis. I can't say I have never exceeded the listed tow ratings myself either, but I won't say it was the smartest or safest thing to do.

^I think the tow ratings are the max what the truck can handle for short periods of time. with my 01 supercrew stock I put a pallet of bricks in the bed, and hauled a trailer with another 2 pallets..thats a lot of bricks, I was riding on bumpstops all the way home. I havnt done anything like that since, I do haul heavy trailers or fertilizer bags in the bed several times a year... If someone plans on towing a 11k+ fairly frequently....they should bump up to 3/4 ton...

kinda sidetrack, does anyone make a 3/4 platform in a 1/2ton size? i.e.: Ford made the 97-03 f150, then had the 7700 series/f150HD/F250LD... with 7 lug axles, beefier leafs

I think you are right as far as it pertains to idiots.

Whether you are below GCWR or 1000 pounds above it, that combo cannot stop in the same distance it did as a truck alone unladen. Some people should not tow, and go too fast, stop too late, and don't understand proper loading and weight placement.

There are many GVW Nazis on the web, and I don't get into it with them.

Just because your truck says it CAN on the door, doesn't mean you SHOULD without considering other factors.

Well put Scott.

I followed behind a Honda Ridgeline ( we know that's not really a truck) for about 5 miles. He was hooked to a two axle U-Haul trailer and was way too heavy on the tongue. He did the switchback for miles, I was afraid to pass him for fear of getting taken out. Finally got around him and watched from my mirror.

He stayed hammer down at 75 mph and eventually blew by me when I exited the interstate. Fucking idiot! Or maybe he just had bigger balls than I would want, I would have shit my pants in some of those maneuvers I witnessed.
