Deep Scratch

I was pulling some heavy stuff over the top of my tailgate the other day, I lost my balance and put a DEEP, LONG scratch down my tailgate. I can see metal.

Is there a way to fix, cover or do something with it, with out spending a lot of $$$?

I would appreciate any suggestions.

I will get some pictures this tomorrow.

Pics will help. If it's down to metal the only real way to fix it is to do a spot refinish on the gate and then clear the whole outer panel. A shop could do it for a reasonable amount of money.
