Level headed but stern, disappointment but willing to work it out. Going in like an ass (which doesn't sound like you are anyways) doesn't do crap except make them lock down and not want to deal with you any. Though I would expect an apology and damage completely covered. Break something working on something else you first inform the customer of what you broke and apologize, then fix what you broke on your own dime.

I agree, any good shop will fix something they break and not charge the customer unless it was previsouly discussed that the potential of something breaking was there.

For sure. Go in level headed. When I worked at the dealer.. we charged around 8-10 hours for trans swaps... and 14 I believe for a rebuild... IIRC.

But we would ALWAYS notify of additional charges like breaking a manifold ( how the hell you do that I have no idea ).

Be cool and calm... be assertive and they should take care of you. Play the.. I did not authorize the extra parts deal...

Don't get the wrong impression from my post. I'm not about to show up there dropping f-bombs, screaming and waving my arms around like an idiot.

I've had a couple of manifolds broken om the GMT800 line. One broke on the webbing between cylinders while mounted. The other broke in the webbing while it was sitting on the bench.

A nice calm well thought out discussion is in order. They should have called you about the manifold, just to give you a heads up.

What was the total bill if you don't mind me asking? Your trans should have 3 year warranty right?
Yes, 3-year/100,000 miles. Right now my bill was $3370.

You have every right to go in peeved (but under control) and get some real answers. I've worked in and around dealerships for many years - and some will flat out **** you if you let em. Stand your ground. They will at least discount the total - which is probably fair.

Ig you have 2WD 9.5 hours is a bit much. I think that manifold replacement was part of that. The dealership should eat the labor cost as well as parts for their F' up.

My question is if you work at a shop why didnt you just swap it yourself? No way it would cost you $3400 to do it yourself.

Probably to do with the warranty. They "usually" will give you a better warranty if a dealer or authorized GM service center installs it versus buying the transmission and just installing it yourself.
