Ever since I got this truck back in 2008 the instrument cluster bezel has never wanted to stay put thanks to
my brother that got pissed one day when working on it and hit the dash. I've wanted to replace for a while
but I hadn't found what i wanted until today. I was looking at craigslist postings and found a guy that had it.
A gray dash with the airbag hole (which started in '97) a bezel, cup holder, passenger side vents not
broken, and as an added bonus it had already been pulled. Nothing was really wrong with it except it
was dirty with some rust on the support bar and some missing paint. So I snagged it and took it home.

I got the new/old dash tore down and prepped for a good scrubbing with soap and water then i'll touch
up the black spots. I also plan on installing a airbag delete tray in the hole for some extra storage.
Here are a few pics of the tear down of the new/old dash and my stopping point today. I think it is un-drivable at the moment. :dunno: :jester:

Looks like it's a lot of work.

Why did you want to go with the 97/98 dash over the 95/96? If you're looking for space from what I've seen the 95/96 offers more storage space with the little cubby and mini cup holders than the other with the airbag delete.

The old one had several cracks in it. Cup holders are never used. The air bag delete is a cubby hole. What do mean exactly? Also this one with the bezel was already on the ground so i didn't have to pull it.

I made more progress today. I got the old dash out and tore down. Now just need to clean up the support bars and paint them black. I was thinking of just using some rust converter paint with some matt black over it.

I'll reword so maybe what I'm asking will make more sense.

Why replace it with a 97+ dash instead of a 95/96? It seems there's more room on the passenger side where the tray is on the 95/96 than the cubby hole in the airbag delete on the 97+. Last time I saw a 97/98 with the airbag delete I remember thinking it wasn't very big.

What stuff i did have up there was always sliding off. I think having the cubby hole would prevent this. Also parts for my truck are starting to get harder to find so i had to take the opportunity.

Yup its a chore. My bezel falling off all the time was kind of annoying. I would have taped it up but that would have been to easy.
