That's nice. But the absence of a front fender is more suitable to a bobber than a cafe-racer.

I like it. :) But then Susan has told me once or twice I was color blind.

Gonna be fun to ride when it's done

That bike looks great Dan:thumbs:

Thanks guys.
Damn it....now I wanna go hack up my 1981 CB650.:fume:
Do it.
I will cut it up for you, and keep it for myself as a cafe racer.

If you want to build a cafe racer, for the love of god don't start with an '80+ CB650, the frame shape and overall stance of the bike is all wrong and you'll hate yourself.

What should I start with?

What should I start with?

Something with a flat subframe, where it doesn't dip down under the seat (like the green and tan CB550 I posted above).

All of the early Honda CBs had flat subframes, the 1980 CB650 and '79 CB750 were the first that I'm aware of that went with the dipped seat. It's not impossible to make a cafe out of one of those bikes, it's just much more difficult to make it clean.

The most popular bikes are probably the SOHC CB750 and CB500/550, and lots of people use the twins (CB350/360/450).

I don't know a whole hell of a lot about the Suzuki/Kawi/Yamaha offerings from that time period, but all of the Japanese manufacturers were making some pretty cool bikes back then.

Of course if you want a cafe that the purists will approve of, you've got to go with a Brit bike (Triumph, Norton, BSA, etc.), but they're more cash, and more difficult to find.
