Re: Dale Earnhardt - 11 Years later..

Nascar died that day. Sucked balls since then. And I'm not even a Dale fan.
I have to agree to some extent. The whole sport changed after that.

Nascar racin sure is a lot safer now:) Damn same it took the death of a legend to make it happen though! :facepalm:

RIP Dale Earnhardt Sr.:halo::flag:

BTW: I don't think Dale would've wanted people to abandon the sport because of his passing IMHO

I was at that race, it was the first race my wife had ever attended. Watching it from the stands made the wreck look even less harmful then it did on TV. I didn't find out he had passed away until we were back in St. Augustine and we were eating at a steakhouse and the waitress had asked us if we had been at the race. Then she says, "I can't believe he's dead". I had NO clue who she was talking about until she said Earnhardt. Then my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe it. I'd seen that fugger crash at Dega 10x worse then the Daytona 500 wreck and be fine. It still amazes me watching that wreck, that he died in it.

I was never a huge Earnhardt fan, but I always had total respect for the man's ability to drive a race car. The sport lost a true legend that day in 2001. I'm lucky enough to say I was able to watch him win his last race at Dega in 2000 in person. It was an awesome come from the back victory that I'll remember forever.

I was there too in the grandstands coming out of turn 4.

Dale was my man, I have been a fan since he first started racing. Saw him and the rest of the gang race down at the Texas World Speedway in Bryan Texas many years ago. As the years go by I watch less and less of the sport, I'll admit I was one of the ones who prayed for Jr. to pic up the torch and become that fierce competitor that his father was.

But Jr. is not his father, just like I am not like mine. He is his own man and I have come to accept that finally. But NASCAR will never be the same for me unfortunately.:halo:

That's awesome! We were sitting in the Superstretch stands that race too!
