I need help trying to figure out this problem. I still have a cylinder 6 misfire even though I have changed the distributor cap, sparkplugs, and wires and wiped the code and it came back. Here is a list of symptoms
-hard to start
-runs rough
-heavy smell of gas by exhaust
what could it be? injector? timing? injector spider? throttle positioning sensor? Fuel pressure regulator? Is there another way I can troubleshoot this. the vehicle has 188000
km's on it

Since you've already tuned it up, my guess would be dirty fuel injectors. :dunno: Try running a good fuel system cleaner through it.

Did you inspect the distributor housing really well. I had one that acted similar years ago...it was always worse when it rained or there was moisture in the air...and it turned out that there was a hairline crack in the back of the distributor housing. I replaced that and it ran like a champ.

Plug wire or plugs...double check that nothing is pinched and plugs gapped properly.
Defective cap on distributor. I've had one one time be bad out the box. Also, make sure that cap got put on correctly, Ive forgot to get them screw down tight before. You could try swapping wires around to see if it follows the wire.

Bad spider injector or FPR. Check static and running fuel pressure.

Burnt exhaust valve or worn rings. Check compression.

Sorry for taking so long to reply, it is a 4.3 Vortec V6 I have inspected the distributer housing I have found no cracks. Everything about the distributor looks ok. What is the best injector cleaner out there? Also if I take the Plenum off I can use Make a Gasket? or I should buy the gasket.?

I would get a new gasket. That way you know it will be good going back on.

As for injector cleaner. I would use AMSOIL's Perfromance Cleaner. If you PM me your address, I can get you a quote on what it will cost to have a bottle shipped to you. :)
