Hey sorry to hear about your headache with this issue.

I don't know if this helps but I asked my dad how much it would be to rebuild your current one and he said $85.

My Dad owns a CV joint and Rack & Pinion steering shop. They rebuild everything in house and have been doing so for over 20 years.

I know shipping is a pain in the ass though.

I also spoke with him and he is willing to send you the CV Boot clamp and grease for free. You would need to buy or borrow a clamping tool in order to use the provided clamp though.

I told him about your situation and he offered to send you the stuff.

Jim is right it is nothing more than a c clamp and a couple wacks with a mallet to get the cv joint off and replace the boot.

Let me know if you are interested.

Oh and this is the facebook page that I made for my dad's shop. Please feel free to like it.

Thanks again Ivan, that is very generous of you and your dad. I will definitely keep that in mind in case the cv shaft my wife bought doesn't work, but I have to believe it will work if they ordered the part using my VIN. Shoot, the original cv shafts lasted over 12 1/2 years before both boots finally split open from dry rotting.

This has most certainly been one of those WTF moments.:flag:

Now in Scott,LA
IMO since you bought the new one(should it work), rebuild the other one. Now you'll have a spare and cheaper than $600.

Right on brother  They say great minds think alike:tmc:

I am definitely going to that AFTER I get my truck out of the garage and back on the road. I know the wife is tired of me driving her 4Runner and getting in muddy! I keep telling her that's what 4x4's are for! She's lucky I don't put my buddy's 2 bird dogs in there when he and I go hunting!

UPDATE: Yep, it's good news this time :D

Well Monday morning as I sat (still pissed) and thought about how much I wished the wife would'nt have dropped the $640 on that CV Shaft, I started snooping around on the Internet looking for a shop that might still repair CV Boots. I came upon a possibility and called them. The guy said they only serviced Volvo's BUT he did know of a place that might still do that and gave me their number.

Well I called them and YES they did still repair CV Shafts and gave me a very reasonable price. I immediately called the wife to tell her and she said the dealer ordered the CV Shaft but they didn't require her to put anything down (thanks goodness for that). She said they called her and told her that it was ready for me to pick it up. She said to call her (if I had to still buy that one in case this CV Shaft boot repair didn't work out) when I got to the dealer and she would give them her check card info over the phone. I told her no problem but I didn't think we would need to go that route.

After hanging up with her, I called that guy back at the place that was going to replace my CV Boot and told him I would bring it by his place of business (right down the road from my place) that afternoon. He said it would only take about 2 hours to do and I could wait there if I wanted to. Well, I got off work late (go figure) but was still able to drop it by before they closed. He called me the next morning and said it was ready to pick up. I raced there from work yesterday, picked it up, and installed it with NO BINDING; of course I knew it wouldn't, it was the CORRECT part!

So....I am calling the dealer today to tell them although I appreciate the fact they ordered that part from Charlotte, NC, I won't be needing it anymore. Sorry but I really didn't want to buy a part that costs TEN TIMES what one would cost at an auto parts store. :pfingers:

The truck will be back on the road FINALLY!!!!

Thanks again to all of you who let me vent and helped me out with this @#%^ING issue.:tmc:

Atlantic Avenue Tire and Service (Lee Weathersbee is the Service Manager)

They are really good people Nick. I am glad I found them because they will probably now be the place I take my truck for things I don't have time to mess with.
