Cold start knock, you don't hear much about it anymore

My 4.8 did it like a MOFO in the winter, yet still had the cross-hatching on the cylinders with 193,000 miles.

Haven't started the 6.0 in really cold weather yet.

Mine does when its cold( and I mean like -10C to -50C) till the engine warms up a bit and I have 150000kms on mine.

I'm pretty sure this has been proven to be a non issue. It doesn't hurt anything and won't effect the longevity of the engine.

My 00 Yukon had it, had 159,000 on the clock when I sold it.

Mine will do it in cooler weather. The colder it is, the longer it will knock for. The longest I ever had it knocking was about a minute, maybe less. If its just cool but not cold, it will only knock for maybe 10 seconds or so.

Piston slap was common in some of the gm engines because of the shorter piston skirts, its just noise and nothing to worry about.

Yeah. The noise was more annoying than anything to owners. Of course everybody wanted it FIXED. Over the long term people discovered these engines were easily going 200, 300 or 400 thousand miles...

I guess a little piston slap was no biggie!

Yeah, but it's not on your truck. They redesigned the pistons in 2006 and nobody has had piston slap since.

I have a 6.0 in my 2001, but I don't think I've heard the knock. I just rolled over 81k yesterday.
