But, I thought the interwebz had decided that it was just "stupid drivers" and "Toyota had been wrongly persecuted by the media, in public forum. It was not Toyota's fault."

In other countries where a NippoDenso throttle pedal is used instead of that Chinese-made one there were unvoluntary acceleration cases related to the floor mats. The same problem also affected some Ford Transit vans assembled in China. Anyway, that's a reason why I still prefer mechanical-linked throttle pedals

Agreed, our Charger has TBW and it drives me insane. The hesitation off the line or at low speed is always at the worst moment.

I feel the media is just doing what it does best and is blowing it out of proportion. If they made a Toyota that I wanted I'd buy it without thought.

I don't really notice the difference anyways (maybe because I'm young and most of the vehicles I've driven have ETC) but it's not like you can get a car in the US with a throttle cable anyways. My Jeep had a horrible throttle response when I first got it and would down shift when turning right, but after a software update to the PCM all is well.

Toyota is just the media's latest whipping post. Instances of unintended acceleration are on file for every manufacturer out there. 99% are simply idiots behind the wheel who get a floor mat caught in the pedal or grab the wrong pedal in a panic situation.
