Sales of the $39,995 Chevrolet Volt increased 240 percent in September, from 302 units in August to 723. That brings the grand total of Volts sold since it entered production in late 2010 to approximately 4495.

General Motors maintains that demand is high and it will sell 10,000 Volts by the end of 2011. but that many of the 8,668 cars it has built this year have been earmarked as dealer demonstration vehicles as it works to expand sales of the car beyond the six markets the plug-in hybrid was launched in last year. Over two thousand dealers need to be provided demos from the 2012 model year before they can commence sales of the car to customers.

Production was only ramped up to full speed in early September and now stands at a rate of 150 vehicles per day. Many of the 2,367 cars produced during the month are still in transit to dealers and buyers and, as of today, there are only 884 cars in the pipeline that are available for retail sale.

It's one of the few Chevy vehicles that currently are not made either in Canada or Mexico :jester:

BTW it's expected to be offered in the Brazilian market in the 2nd semester of 2012, but I have already seen one in my hometown. Not so ugly at all...

I hope they replace the 1.4L engine for something that wouldn't require premium gasoline. :jester: Maybe a 3cyl diesel would get the job done :naughty:

Premium is still .30-.40 cents cheaper than Diesel.

I was actually not considering just the prices. But also, due to a lesser fuel consumtion, it would allow the use of a smaller (then lighter) fuel tank. And also diesel fuel is safer to be stored than gasoline.

But let's not hijack the thread. About the Volt's driveline: I don't understand why not to use hub-motors on it...

Emissions on a diesel are tougher than a gas and is a major factor why there are not so many diesels around here. That and it still has a bad rap from it's early days of being loud and dirty.

A diesel engine is roughly 20% more efficient than a gasoline engine.

.30 - .40 cents makes a diesel more effective by a slight margin, but the downside is the pumping losses the diesel produces at higher RPMs where it's engaged.
