Impalas are pretty decent cars that should run for a good, long time, although their styling isn't very exciting at all. There is a reason they are used by so many fleets.
I don't mind the styling, but there are little things you can do to help that out also. One reason I consider one is because so many fleets use them, they must last. :dunno:[/QUOTE
Since your married you don't need something exciting, go with practical.

Accord or Altima. Both get superb fuel economy and last forever (Leaving out Camry because she isn't a grandmother). Nissan is making incredible deals on new Altimas right now.
As much as I would like to buy a Brand new car, that isn't possible. We just can't afford that much of a monthly payment at this time. I have been looking alot at 07' and 08' Impala's. :dunno:
I understand. Impala is a pretty decent car with the 3.8. You can get real deals on them. They probably get 25 mpg highway too.

Didn't they drop the 3.8 in 05? :dunno:

My mom has the 3.5 in a Malibu that has almost 100k on it without any issues or leaks and doesn't get less than 32mpg highway. Not the smoothest or most powerful (200hp/220lb-ft) but has been trouble free and gets 4 pot mileage. The tranny on the other hand is a little slippery under hard throttle.

They dropped the 3.8 and went to the 3.5 at some point. I'm not sure what year it was. The 3.5 has proven to be a good engine as well.

The 3.5 is definitely the best of the old 60V6s. Of course the 2.8, 3.1, and 3.4 didn't set the bar very high. Also, kinda sad it took GM almost 25 years (2.8 in 1980 in the otherwise awesome Citation to the 3.5 in the 04 Malibu) to finally make a decent engine out of it.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
Good luck. I know several people with that previous body style of Malibu. They're a little small inside for my liking, but that's because I'm a big dude.

We really like our 07 Impala. I bet you could get 10 dead hookers in the trunk, if that's important to you :D
