So before i bought my truck i knew i was going to have to deal with some of the engine issues because i heard the engine ticking, i bought the truck at 59k miles and have had it for about 4 years now and have 88k miles and couple weeks ago i decided to pull apart the engine on the truck since its difficult to remove a engine off a lifted truck....i pulled everything apart including the valve covers and timing chain....when i took it all apart the chain was very loose and the tensioners were very loose....so i replaced all those things and put it back together and started it up and sounded beautiful.........After the truck warmed up the noise came back

So now i still have the cam phaser issue but only when the truck is hot other then that when i start up the truck and its cold it sounds very nice.....

I was talking to my dad since he is the one with the shop and he helps me out and he thinks its the valve lifters that need to be replaced....what do you guys think because i need to get it fixed.

Also a side question, when the truck warms up and the noise comes back it seems to have a misfire now.....checked all the injectors and COBS and theyre all fine.....maybe a connector somewhere is loose?

please let me know what kind of advice you have, thanks and here are some pics

Hey George looks like you have been busy, not an expert of the Ford engines but if your dad is leaning that way I would probably agree with him.

I had a shop fix mine shortly after buying it, actually at 59K too. They did it and my mechanic said that should do it but you'll still here a majority of the ticking. He said the lifters on these trucks are just really loud. He's been a FORD certified Mechanic since 1992 so I believed him.

Only time I hear my truck doing it now is after it's gotten real warm too

I did the cam phaser swamp out at a shop and it cost me $900

That's just the phasers right? I'm thinking about doing phasers, solenoid and lifters. Phasers and Solonoid is like 500 for parts and I'll do labor. Your noise went away after that?

It did for a while but the lifters are ticking again, but it is not as bad as it was when the cam phasers hadn't been touched

IDK :dunno:

He said the lifters on our trucks are just "loud?"

I know some guys with 04-05s that have close to 200,000 and have had no problems besides them being loud :dunno:
