I'm having thoughts on tuning the hoe based on how much I liked the tune in my Sierra. I know the AutoCal is the big thing these days but I missed all the hype because I wasn't keeping up with GM tuning while I had the Jeep. The website says the tune includes 4 tune files. What I'm thinking is stock (just because), regular tune (86 octane here) for when I'm feeling cheap, and premium tune (90 octane here) for when I'm not.

What did everyone else go with? :dunno:

For the white 'Hoe, I just went with the 91+ and "firm" for the shifting. I really haven't modified anything since.

For the gray 'Hoe, Justin did an in-person on it when my father had it and it runs great so I haven't changed it at all either.

The big advantage for me, as I see it, is that whenever, should I ever want to change them, I can do it relatively quickly. Waiting on the scan cable BLEW.

It's nice to have a code reader out of the deal as well.

The Sierra I did an in-person tune and was more than happy with it but I drive to Wichita for it and the closed in the near future is 7 hours away in DFW but can't make it then. Stuck with regular unleaded and normal TM removal on it.

My dad did a scan cable on his (mid grade and normal TM removal) and is more than happy so I'm thinking I don't need an in-person tune. Can't use scan cable in 6 speeds though which is why I'm leaning AutoCal.

The AutoCal is a great way to go and gives you the flexibility to restore to stock if you need to take it in or to reinstall should the dealer ever flash yours.

I have done an in-person tune on each truck that Justin tuned. I've always gotten the 91 octane and had Justin firm up the shifting up to the point he didn't feel comfortable going firmer. I also have the shift points changed slightly.

I did buy an AutoCal for my current truck to make any tweaks and to change out tunes. That being said, I haven't used it yet. After the summer, I'll probably take some time to make some small adjustments and get a couple other tunes for it.

You mentioned in another thread that you were going to let yours break-in before tuning. Unless you are doing it for peace of mind, I don't think its needed. I brought mine to him not long after I bought it (guessing ~1,000 miles).

I did the in person tune on my truck and wanted to change the shift points up and I wasn't able to make it to DFW to do it so I just threw down on the Autocal and couldn't be happier.

Well...after stewing about it all day... I did it, I thought it was worth it and I loved it in the Sierra so I'm sure I'm going to love it in this, especially since the tranny is so lazy, sometimes you can't even force it to go down :)naughty:)

There was really only one direction to go, even if you do think there are two Norths at the plant. :jester:

I knew it was a go...just figured it'd be farther down the road

Good choice. Honestly, I was surprised at home much of a difference having the transmission tuned on the Denali made. The overall thing was good, but the transmission tune was very eye-opening for me.
