Just curious if there are any other Detroit Diesel owners on the site. So, who here has a 6.2L or a 6.5L? And what vehicle do you have it in?

The 6.2 and the 6.5 are not Detroit Diesel engines. They are GM.

I am sorry my friend, they are not GM, they are built by Detroit Diesel. GM did own Detroit for a number of years but did sell their stake in the company a long time ago.

I am sorry my friend, they ARE GM, and were produced by GM. Read your own link.

They were a DDC design ONLY. They were never, ever produced or marketed by the Detroit Diesel Corporation. The 8.2 liter was the only v8 four cycle designed , produced, and sold by DDC. I have worked for a DDC distributor for 20 years

The first two lines of the site;

General Motors introduced a line of Diesel V8 engines for their C/K pickup trucks in 1982. This engine family, designed by GM division Detroit Diesel, was produced by GM through 2000.

If you want to split hairs, your partially correct. Yes, GM built the engines, but they were designed by Detroit. Kind of like during WWII when a number of different companies built Jeeps. It was still a Jeep, even if it was built by Hudson, Packard, Dodge, GMC, etc....

If I open the hood on my 85' the engine says 'Detroit', if I open the hood of my 97' it says GM. Like I said before, Detroit was owned for a long time by GM, but not in many years.

Now, if your not a Detroit owner, then please dont dilute the thread. The thread title is "Any Detroit owners here?"

Hey Merlin, I actually do own a couple of real Detroit Diesel engines. If you would like to discuss them, we can, at length.

All I was doing was trying to help, so that you and others understand. It implies that you can walk into any of the 800 DDC facilities worldwide and purchase a part for one of these engines. You cannot.

Thats great. Lets discuss them. What do you have?

I understand and appreciate you trying to help, but we are arguing interpretation, so neither of us can win.
