AMW PCV catch can

I've seen these listed on several members signature on other forums. What is the purpose if your engine is running properly? I can see one maybe on supercharged engines, but not on stock setups. Plus the price of this thing is outrageous.

Actually I could use on on my 91 Jetta. I get a ton of oil in my inlet to the turbo. This would probably help from burning so much oil since it has some serious blow-by. Just not this specific one, way overpriced.

Anyone on here have a catch can?

i've actually seen people take air/water separators from like home depot fill them with a little steel wool and retrofit them the their cars/trucks and the do the same thing for a lot less.

Don't have one yet but I need one when I drop the ls1 in. Like you said they are expensive

In the average, properly running engine with no excessive amounts of oil being drawn into the engine through the PCV, a catch can isn't really needed. Some people still claim a benefit But I 'd say from your description, your Jetta could benefit from one. Since GM went to a fixed orifice instead of the old style PCV, oil consumption from the PCV has been reduced. I'd build one before I paid the kind of $$$ they want for one

Nope, I think every engine could come stock with one. It keeps oil mist out of the intake tract. It's sort of like a cleaner for your PCV system. Less residue in the intake system the better. That and losing the egr

It needs vacuum on the can to work properly. The best way is to run a hose from the PCV valve on the driver side valve cover, to the can, and then a hose from the can to the vac port on top of the intake manifold for it's vac supply.

My buddy had one on his turbo motor but it was set up differently. It was more to bleed off positive pressure out of the crank case under boost... Similar purpose, different theory

I need a catch can for the LS2. It eats a ton of oil through the PCV system.
