INSIDE LINE: Douglas Honors Troops
This past winter, AMSOIL Super Team drivers Scott Douglas and Chad Hord joined forces with Traxxas owner Mike Jenkins and Armed Forces Entertainment for a ten day trip to the Middle East for a salute and thank-you to the U.S. Armed Forces serving in harm’s way.
The trip was a highlight for the three off-road truck drivers as they engaged with service men and women at several stops, each of which included an interactive off-road challenge with Traxxas R/C trucks. While the tour happened in April, the time spent resonated with all of the drivers, and the memories came back to life last week in Chicago.
As part of the trip, Douglas had more than 100 troops sign a large sheet of paper to commemorate the time overseas. As a special gesture, Douglas had a laminated print of that sheet reprinted into the hood of his Pro 4x4 AMSOIL/F-150. Douglas vowed to race with the new hood during the 2011 Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL and accomplished the tribute at the race last Thursday at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. Sporting a new paint scheme and the autographed hood, Douglas roared to a third place finish in front of a packed house and a nation-wide SPEED Channel audience.
"The trip was an amazing experience," said Douglas. "I have a lot of respect for what these men and women go through on a daily basis. The hood is our way of saying thank you to them for allowing us the opportunity to visit them overseas."
"What Scott did with that hood is unbelievable," said Jenkins. "The experience overseas was a once-in-a-lifetime event, and seeing Scott's truck reminded me of that trip and the people we met. Hats go off to him for getting that done."
The TORC series wraps up October 15-16 in San Antonio, Texas. The 2011 season will begin airing on HD Theater Wednesday, September 21 at 6:00 EST.
