Electric cars have the very same problem they had in the early 1900s - lack of range. If they did 500 miles between charges, people would flock to them.

American's are lazy and electric cars aren't convenient. We (atleast in the mid-west and south) want to hop in the car on a moment's notice, maybe spend 5 minutes filling up with gas and drive hundreds of miles just because we can. The idea of spending 8 hours to charge a car that can only go 40 miles is absurd.
